In this extensive and exclusive interview, Russell Crowe talks to Andrew L. Urban first about Texas, the “rude and irreverent” doco he’s produced of his band, Thirty Odd Foot of Grunts, which has its world premiere this month at Sundance. In the second half of the interview, the conversation turns to his latest film, A Beautiful Mind, in which he plays John Forbes Nash, the Nobel Prize winning mathematics genius - and schizophrenic.

In Wellington for the premiere and surrounded by some of the sets and props from The Fellowship of the Ring, Andrew L.
Urban talks to a few of those who took part in the historic, lengthy but exhilarating
process of making the film, including director Peter Jackson (pic) and Richard Taylor, partners
in Weta, the workshop where Tolkien’s Middle-earth was brought to life for the screen
– piece by piece, all by hand.

LORD OF THE RINGS PREMIERE: RED CARPET, WELLINGTON 2001
Peter Jackson (who admits to feeling like a fish out of water), Hugo Weaving,
Miranda Otto, and many other guests walk up the red carpet at the sensational Wellington
premiere of The Fellowship of the Ring (December 19, 2001) and chat to Andrew L. Urban
[and his cameraman, Sebastian Urban]. Unseasonal cold and wind notwithstanding, this was
the film’s hottest premiere, and so say all of them.
